It is no secret that the medical marijuana industry in the United States faces an uphill struggle, indeed our readers will remember that we covered the issue in detail recently and discussed how dependence on cash is putting both medical marijuana businesses as well as consumers at a great deal of risk. It is interesting to note that there have been developments in this field and there is now a payments solution at hand for regulated medical marijuana businesses as well as customers. CanPay has recently announced a solution for the legal marijuana industry that has become available to users as well as businesses in the states of Washington, Oregon and Colorado. If this solution does indeed get adopted en-masse, it promises to solve the industry’s cash-only problem. Why no banking love for marijuana The problem in the United States arises from the dichotomy in laws. While in many states the use of medical marijuana is now allowed, federal law still acts as a spanner in the wheel. The banking industry is thus wary of being on the wrong side of federal law and the industry is largely unorganized. Consumers who want to access medical marijuana in states where it …

The world’s largest Blockchain lending marketplace, BitLendingClub, has announced its sudden shutdown due to what it describes as regulatory pressure. The Bulgarian-registered startup has operated since 2014 and has funded almost 10 thousand loans worth in excess of $7 mln. Now, its operations are ceasing, with existing users retaining minimal functionality in order to move funds out. “We’ve worked extremely hard to build a platform and a community which is uniquely positioned to provide the Bitcoin ecosystem with a greatly needed service,” a blog post released today states. The company adds: “However, over the last year or so, the regulatory pressures has been increasing to the point that it is no longer feasible to maintain the operation of the platform. We are regretfully announcing that we will have to begin (sic) terminating the services effective immediately.” The functionality will begin to be reduced from next week. The burden of compliance The move reflects the continued difficulties faced by cryptocurrency-based finance startups with regards to legislation. While the EU has been fairly accommodating to disruptive finance overall, as witnessed in activity in the Netherlands, ensuring businesses conform to the requirements can overbearingly restrict functionality. BitLendingClub said the shutdown was part of the …

As I went over in an Op-Ed on Sunday, Hillary Clinton could not be allowed to become President of the United States. Call me crazy, but the world does not need openly corrupt, lying, World War 3-threatening politicians controlling Washington. Donald Trump wanted to “drain the swamp” and he is a man who gets things done, starting at the head of state. He’s already done more in one night than President Obama has done in eight years. Thank you America, for joining me and the rest of the liberty movement on the right side of history. Ok, enough about me being so right all the time…..what does this mean for Bitcoin? I’m going to give you three fast ways Trump helps Bitcoin and provides Bitcoin a much better future than the corrupt alternative. Bitcoin price should go up even faster for the rest of the year Bitcoin has proven to be just like Donald John Trump, a winner, from jump street, and 2016 has been no different. Bitcoin was up by over 60 percent this year going into election night, and these results will only build upon that growth throughout the coming weeks and months ahead. Bitcoin has proven to …

It may be the US election fever or it may be something else, but according to Google, the search for the “buy Bitcoin” term on the world’s largest source of information platform is on an upward trend. Though the particular factors that may be driving the rising interest has not yet been ascertained, Google analytics show that interest over time is currently at 87 – that’s tipping towards its highest point of 100 between June 12-18. Bitcoin price has reached the $770 mark within the current period. Whether the current ascension, which according to Google kick started in Oct. 22, will continue at such a pace and return to the peak price reached earlier this year, will be determined by one or more of the following factors. Trump, Clinton, Bitcoin The outcome of today’s Nov. 8 elections could be a factor. A study by research and analysis firm Juniper in July, speculated that the price of Bitcoin will rise if Republican candidate, Donald Trump, wins as it will create turmoil on the global markets. Every time the polls indicated a rise in popularity for Trump, the market structure changes, however that was not the case for Democrat candidate, Hillary Clinton. …

Leading analysts state that the Chinese foreign exchange reserves have likely fallen between the range of $80 to 100 bln in October. Considering the value, experts state that the devaluation of the yuan is presumed and thus, the demand for Bitcoin will most likely surge again. Jens Nordvig, founder and CEO at Exante Data, a prominent proprietary data and innovative analytical solutions provider, recently stated in an open letter to its clients that the foreign exchange market of China may be in trouble. Nordvig wrote: “Last week, our proprietary real-time indicators detected intervention (CNY buying / USD selling) of US$19.5 billion. We have not seen such a large imbalance in the FX market since the first week of January.” It is important to note that in the first week of January, the entire financial market of China was in chaos, as the Shanghai Stock Exchange suffered from a plunge in value, dropping from over 3.5 mln to around 2.6 mln. If the Chinese market experiences a similar imbalance at the beginning of 2017, Nordvig emphasizes that investors should expect a massive drop of $80 bln. “We expect a dramatic drop of around $80 bln. This could be a wake-up call. …

Reports say a tightening U.S. election race has gotten Asian shares tumble to a 7-week lows and the US dollar lost ground against the yen and the euro on Wednesday November 2. This comes as the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, is reportedly closing the gap with his Democrat counterpart, Hillary Clinton, and money is being forced out of riskier assets and into safe-havens such as the Swiss franc and gold, according to Reuters. As a growing safe haven alternative to gold and its recent record high in number of users and transactions, Bitcoin is likely to benefit from the current market outlook. Trump and Bitcoin Though there hasn’t been any empirical proof to support the claim of a direct correlation with Bitcoin and its recent corrected price to the slightly above $700 range, the Trump’s candidacy, has been implied to be in tandem with the growing popularity of the top digital currency. Recently, an academic and author David Golumbia suggested in a blog post that the politics of Blockchain should make people worried about Trump and those who support him, signaling that some attributes of Bitcoin and the Blockchain technology are interfering with the ongoing US presidential election and …
